Shadow

After School

We stopped by the lake today to check out the ice and take some pictures. There were a bunch of fishermen out on the lake. We walked around on the ice a little bit 'til girlie girl got cold. My wife got home and the fire had kinda died down and she wondered what was going on. I told her it was summertime this afternoon and we didn't need a fire. After I said that I went ahead and fixed the fire.

I Love Winter

It was 18 degrees at noon when I left the house to go run in the woods.

Ladder 26

Some of our friends went to Boston last January on vacation. While they were out sightseeing Susan saw this Boston Fire Department ladder truck (Ladder 26) driving down the street and snapped a quick photo. On January 9th of this year, this same ladder truck crashed into an apartment building killing company officer Lieutenant Kevin M. Kelley and injuring 2 other firefighters and 2 children. Our prayers go out to Lieutenant Kelley's family and friends.

Heels HDR

I took 3 different exposures of this shoe on Christmas Eve '07 so I could try some HDR software. We had gone to Pullman Square to see National Treasure 2. Not bad.

Photos From the Brownie

I got the film that was in my Brownie developed yesterday and I scanned the negatives on my Epson 3170 flatbed scanner. For anyone who doesn't know, my wife bought me an antique Kodak Folding Autographic Brownie for Christmas. The camera is between 83 and 93 years old. The film didn't appear to be that old, but who knows. Kodak introduced the 116 format film in 1899 and discontinued it in 1984. Tom Hindman, (The Imagesmith), had read my blog posts about my camera and offered to develop the film for me in one of the darkrooms at the Charleston Daily Mail. My daughter had a snow day Thursday so she got to go with me. We went to Merrill Photo and got the stuff to develop the film and headed over to the paper. Tom couldn't have been nicer. We had a real nice time talking with him. He also introduced us to a couple of the other photographers, Craig Cunningham and Bob Wojcieszak. The film only captures 8 photos and they were all of the same thing, the front of a house. These were the 2 best ones, the others were blurry or covered with fungus that had grown on the film over the years. If anybody knows where these may have been taken (I'm assuming Charleston, but could be anywhere), let me know. It looks like the house on the right has a number 811 on it.

Thursday Morning

I just happened to turn around and see the sunrise while I was outside this morning watching the plumber try to get my sewer line unstopped. I hurried around front to get the pic because sunrise colors usually only last a few minutes. I didn't have time to go anywhere more scenic, plus I had to get back around to the backyard so I could watch the plumber. My wife said "he probably doesn't need you standin' over his shoulder", but like any guy, I like to watch somebody dig a hole or use a piece of machinery.

Tuesday Evening

We were eating our Christmas spaghetti at my Mom's on Christmas Eve when her neighbor called and said she had a flat tire and wondered if she would come and pick her up. I told my mom that I'd go with her and change her tire for her. We all loaded up in the Subaru in the pourin' rain and off we went. By the time we got there it had stopped raining so I didn't get too wet changing her tire. The other day my Mom called and said Kitty wanted to fix us dinner for changing her tire. I had to really think about it, you know, a real home cooked meal and everything. ;-) Anyway, we got there and she had the table set for a four course meal. Kitty is in her mid eighties and is an awesome cook. I had to get this picture fast before I started chowin' down. We had a fruit salad, a tossed salad, roast beef with au jus, green beans, cabbage, baked potatoes, homemade rolls and ice cream for dessert. Man it was good. Thanks Kitty!

Imitation...

Rick Lee came to the Charleston Camera Club meeting on Monday and gave a very interesting and informative presentation. He talked about some of his most interesting assignments of 2008. He had some large B&W prints with him and showed us some B&W photos he had on his computer that he had done for a local architecture and design firm. One was of the Capitol Rotunda. I have some of my own of the rotunda that I like so I was inspired to convert one of them to B&W.

We don't have these...

...very often, for obvious reasons, but they're so good I had to post again about 'em. Nathans hot dogs, Cattleman's BBQ sauce, sharp cheddar, bacon and onions. We also had light Lays chips and diet Coke;-) Then the wife of one of the other firemen brought us a half of a coconut cream pie and half a pecan pie. I'm starting a FIRP (food intake reduction program) tomorrow.

New Years Day At The Fire Station

This is what I end up doing when I'm bored at the fire house. Plus I just had to post a picture on the first day of the year.
