Hunting Island Fog

We went out to the beach this afternoon and found some awesome fog.  It had been sunny until we got to Hunting Island, where it looked like a cloud had dropped out of the sky and covered the island.  It made for some great photography.

We spent the afternoon of a very warm December 23rd in the New River Gorge.

Herzog

A couple of rail car panoramas that I liked.  The top one is a 3 shot panorama and the bottom one is 4.  Click on them for a better view.

Gauley Bridge, WV

This is the little town where I grew up.  I actually didn't live in town but on up the Gauley River about 3 miles in a wide spot in the road called Alta, WV.  We did everything in Gauley though, school, church, friends, groceries, doctor, pharmacy, clothes, haircuts, tv repair and on and on.  It was a pretty neat town when I was a kid and probably even more so when my mom and grandmother were growing up there.

The New River and the Gauley River both end right where the bright lights are and they form the Kanawha River.

Molly and I had gone rock climbing this afternoon and we were on our way home and we stopped at the end of the "boulevard" to see if the Milky Way was visible over Gauley.  It was visible, but it was almost directly overhead and not over the town.  I went ahead and made a few photos anyway, just for s & g's.  This was also the first time I had used my Fuji xe-2 for any night sky photography.  I think it did ok.

Charleston Baptist Temple

This is from one day last week.  All we've had is cloudy weather for a while, but it makes for good black and white photography.

Zag

A couple of our cousins from Brunswick, GA came in for Thanksgiving and we were able to take them rock climbing Tuesday. In this photo Bonnie is almost to the top of Zag, a cool 5.8 climb at the Bridge Buttress.  It was a perfect day.  Not too hot, not too cold and some of the clearest blue sky ever.

Summer Climbers

I was looking through some photos from this summer and came across this one that Molly's friend Kaliegh took.  Molly and I were taking Kaliegh rock climbing for her first time.

Sunday Afternoon Color

It had been a while since I went for a walk just specifically to make pictures, so while Kim was nappin', Molly and I went to Charleston and walked around town for a while.  It was perfect weather and there was still some color on a few of the trees downtown.

Monday At The New River Gorge

Monday was a great day.  Molly and I got some rock climbing in after she got out of school.  When we finished climbing we headed over to Beauty Mountain for the sunset then to Water Stone Outdoors to get some stickers for Molly's new ('91 Dodge Dakota) truck.

Saturday Morning Street Shots

I had a couple of things to do in Charleston Saturday morning, so while I was there I took a nice walk around downtown.

Tuesday Morning

One of the most dramatic sunrises I've seen.  I was at work with only my 35mm lens for my Fuji x-e2 and I was so struck by the awesomeness that I didn't think about going up on the roof of the fire station until it was over.  Booo!

Wednesday Evening Rainbow

We saw five rainbows yesterday evening  and I saw one the day before.  All doubles!  The other one in this photo is barely visible.  It's to the left of the bright one.   The last one we saw was "full on across the sky.  Whoa!!!"  I wish I would've been able to get a photo of that one.

C-130

A C-130 soars over Appalachian Power Park this morning.  I like being downtown when they take off from the airport and fly over the city.
