Hunting Island in Black & White

Nerd alert!!

These two photos are the same.  The only difference is that the top one is from a RAW file that I processed in Lightroom and converted to b&w with Nik software.  The bottom one is a JPEG that was shot in camera as a b&w with a red filter.  I can't decide which one I like better.  Probably the top one.

R J Reynolds Mural

This is part of a mural in the lobby / 1st floor of the R. J. Reynolds Building in Winston-Salem.  I made this photo through a window.  It would be cool to get inside and be able to photograph the whole thing.

Winston-Salem, NC

I was looking through some of my photos I made on our trip to Winston-Salem last spring and saw this on I liked.  You'd never know it by looking at the sky but there was a record breaking ice storm the day before and there was still a bunch of ice/snow/slush on the streets.

A cool looking door (I thought so anyway) near downtown Beaufort, SC.

The Ritz

I love this sign.  I make a photo of it almost every time we're in Brunswick.  This time, just for fun, I took four photos with my Fuji 55-200mm lens and stitched them into a four shot panorama.  That's nerd fun.  ;-)

Ice Princess

This photo is from the ice storm in Winston-Salem, NC back in March.  Maybe it'll help cool us off.  ;-)

R J Reynolds Tobacco Company

When we were driving into Winston-Salem last week I noticed a building on the skyline that I thought looked like the Empire State Building.  Once we got to our hotel I went exploring around downtown and found out that the building was the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Building.  I did a little research online that evening and found out some cool stuff about it.  When the building was completed in 1929 it was the tallest building in the U.S. south of Baltimore, MD.  It was also the prototype for the Empire State Building that was built in 1931 in New York City.  Every year the staff of the Empire State Building sends a Father's Day card to the staff at the Reynolds Building to honor its role as predecessor to the Empire State Building.

Winston Salem

This is the first time we've been to Winston Salem, NC.  I didn't realize it was as close to us as it is.  It only took us 3 hours to get here.  I had a nice long walk around downtown after we got here.

Haunted Parkersburg

We went to Parkersburg last weekend to do the Haunted Parkersburg tour that's hosted by author, Susan Sheppard.  It was pretty entertaining.  We were in a big group and we made several stops so Susan could tell stories of ghosts around the area.  At the bottom of the Quincy Hill stairs we stopped to listen to the story of the Quincy Hill water tank disaster when this young lady sidled into our group.  She was humming, Rock a Bye Baby.  Interesting.

If you click on the water tank disaster link, you'll see the house that's directly behind her in a couple of the photos.
