New River
Today was the last day of my first vacation of the summer. Now remember, I said first vacation of the summer, so you don't have to feel too sorry for me.
We took a day trip to one of our favorite places. The New River. Kim wanted to go swimming, but as you can see by her sweatshirt, she thought it was a little too cool. We hiked around, played on the rocks, watched some whitewater rafters, had a picnic and Kim and Molly picked a bunch of red raspberries.
As soon as we got to the edge of the gorge a couple of dogs found us and wanted to share our lunch, so we gave them some of our stuff and they made their selves right at home.

It's Official
My gal is now a Captain on the Charleston, WV Police Department. Last Friday was actually the day she was promoted but she just went back to work today from our vacation. On the pad she's writing, "fake notes for picture". She can't live without her Mtn. Dew.

Waffle House
One of my favorite places to eat. Not just this one, but any Waffle House. Whenever I see a diner or something like this at night it reminds me of the painting "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper. I took this picture because I thought it would make a cool black & white photo but I think I like it in color better.

Nobody on the road...
...nobody on the beach. (Don Henley) The bottom photo is American Beach on Amelia Island, FL and the top photo is Jekyll Island, GA. American Beach smelled like WV in the fall because of all the brush fires in FL and GA.

Smoky
I couldn't decide whether it was spelled "smoky" or "smokey", so I "put it in the google", and found I had it right.
There is usually a really nice clear view from the bridge going over to Jekyll Island but the sky is full of smoke from a lot of "brush-a-fires" (technical term used on B-shift) in Georgia and Florida.

Beat up at the beach
The water was rough and the tide was high so there were a lot of tree stumps under water at North Beach. I think we're gonna live though.

June 17th
I've been watching a blog called "The People of Detroit" for a while and it gave me the idea to make some pictures in his style (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). He takes a photo of someone and then puts their name or what they do, on the photo. Check out his blog. It's cool.
Actually I've only done one so far, and it's of my wife Kim. The reason the post is titled "June 17th" is because her promotion to Captain on the Charleston Police Department won't be official 'til that day. She's a Lieutenant right now, but it's only 8 more days, so I thought, "what the heck". We're really proud of her!!
The photo was taken on Capitol Street just before we picked up our delicious, large pepperoni pizza from Graziano's. The best pizza in the world!

Rednecks On Vacation!
We got a chance today to go out and shoot my wife's new AR-15 she bought last month. We had a ball. My cousin brought a couple of his pistols. The one pictured is a .480 caliber, Taurus model 480, Raging Bull. That thing is awesome.

Do it yourself...
...ear piercing gone wrong. I was outside workin' in the yard this afternoon after school and yelled in the house and asked my daughter to bring me something to drink. When she came to the door she was all teary eyed and had a piece of ice on her ear and big straight pin stuck through the cartilage of her ear. She had the neat idea of putting one more hole in it. :-) It went through but she couldn't get it out. My wife got home and we went in the bathroom and I pulled the pin out and she stuck an earring in real fast. I think everything's gonna be OK. My daughter said she thinks she has enough holes in her ear for now.
