When you can't get the color like you want it, you have to go black & white.

Thursday Evening
Just happened to look out the window and saw the sunset. Didn't have time to go somewhere scenic so I got up on the roof.
Pleasant View
On the way to Cunard. We didn't go all the way to the river because of the snow. We got to a trail head parking lot, where the road gets really steep going to the river, and turned around. There was over a foot of snow and no other vehicles had been past that spot. Even though we have 4 wheel drive I didn't want to chance gettin' stuck down there.

New River Snowmen
Went up to the New River area today to play in the snow. While we were there, my daughter thought it would be cool to build a snowman on the edge of the New River Gorge, so we did. We made him so he could look out over the gorge 'til he's gone.

Christmas Eve
Since I have to work at the fire station tomorrow, we pretended like today was Christmas and opened our gifts this morning. After that we watched, It's a Wonderful Life, then went to my mom's for our traditional Christmas spaghetti and walk on the railroad. We also went to church for a Christmas Eve service and communion. We had a great day.

We don't have a dog...
...but sometimes our neighbor's dog that lives on the street behind us gets loose and comes to visit. He doesn't usually come until I go get him from across the road or out of another neighbor's trash. This morning, Kim was looking out the kitchen window and said, "there goes Jack up on Mrs. Greens porch. I got my webbing that I use for all kinds of stuff, including a leash, and went and got him so he wouldn't get hit coming back across the street. He likes to come in and get a drink and a snack and play around a little bit before we take him home. This morning he had pizza, cat food and water. I was taking him home and his owner was coming out the street looking for him. She was on her way to work and was running late so she just took Jack to work with her.

Charleston Shots
Was out today doing some last minute Christmas shopping and came across some stuff to photograph. Since I have a camera with me 99% of the time, I can almost always find something that I think is interesting, to shoot.

Capitol Christmas
Went to the Capitol this evening after we put some lights on our trees out in front of our house. It was almost too cold, even for me, and I like the cold. It was 22 degrees F with a 10 to 15 mph wind.
I wanted to see the Christmas Trees they got for the Capitol this year and see how they compared to our tree in the back yard. This year was the second time that someone from the State has came and looked at our tree. There's just no way they can get a truck big enough into our back yard to cut it and haul it to Charleston. It's a shame too because ours is a lot bigger than the one they have on the north (back) side and just as tall but a lot more full than the one they have on the south (front) side.
The top picture is an HDR photo (3 different exposures) of the back side of the Capitol and the bottom is a single image of the front. I can't decide which one I like better.

2nd Digital
I was looking through some stuff today and found some pictures I made with my second digital camera. It was a Nikon Coolpix 990. I think it was a 3.3 megapixel camera. I took both of these on the porch of the log house that I grew up in. My grandmother still lived there when I made these pictures. Her dad built the house in the 1930's and it's still in the family today. My first cousin bought it when my grandmother had to move in with my mom.

Second Thanksgiving
Man, we had another big Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's today since I had to work at the fire station on Thursday. We had a big dinner that day that was almost beyond compare.
Today was also a good photographic day with a couple of interesting subjects.
The top picture is a tiny cream pitcher that I can't decide whether it's Humpty Dumpty or George Washington. The second interesting one was the frozen "muffin tops" at Kroger. If I have many more Thanksgiving dinners I'll have four muffin tops instead of just one. The others are just regular stuff I take all the time like rail car graffiti, turkeys and Thanksgiving tables.

Lunch
I was reading another photographers blog today and he was talking about how he likes the photos he takes in New York City to be Black and White. I've got a bunch of NYC pics so I started looking through some that I had already processed in color, but would look good in B&W. This is one of my favorites. I don't know why the lady on the left is covering her face. The food from those carts is really good.

Silent Night
My friend Matt is making a Christmas CD and had asked a bunch of friends and family to come sing on it, so Molly and I went to sing our part today. I can't sing worth a hoot, but we had fun. We're all singing Silent Night. He's combining all the individual tracks into a choir. It sounds really good. I can't wait 'til he gets it done.
