Praying Mantis

I didn't notice the praying mantis 'til I'd taken a few pictures because it was so small.  It was only about 3/4 inches long.

LST 325

LST 325 passes under the almost completed Saint Albans / Nitro bridge Thursday afternoon on it's way to Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston.

Check out this video made by retired Saint Albans police officer Jim Butler.

Saint Albans firefighters Mike Lively and Eric Tucker go to work Monday afternoon with West Side and Lakewood Volunteer firefighters to extinguish a car hauler and a couple of cars at the Capitol City Auto Auction.

Monday Morning

Both of these photos were made at the Charleston Civic Center.  I had to run a couple of errands near there this morning and both of them just seemed to jump out at me, especially the "A".

Sunday Evening Geese

I made this photo from the boat ramp on Main Ave. in Nitro.  I wish the power lines didn't cross the river right there, but it's still a nice place to go watch the sunset.

Ritz Theatre Brunswick, Georgia

I like old signs and this is one of the coolest I've seen.  I've got several photos of it before and after it was restored.  This is from a couple of weeks ago.  Check out this video of the relighting ceremony.  It's a little long, but the first part, where they are putting it back on the building is interesting and the lighting is at the 12:15 mark.

Hanna Park, Jacksonville, FL

This was another gray, cloudy afternoon  that didn't have a lot of color to begin with, so I converted it to black and white.  I wish I had gotten a little closer to the fisherman.

Jekyll Island Clouds

A storm moved in on us while we were at the beach the other day.  We were playing a very competitive game of bocce, so I was taking pictures while waiting my turn.  The sun was blocked by the clouds and the air was so full of humidity that the colors of the beach and sky were dull and blah to the naked eye, and especially to the camera.   I think the black and white conversion makes it all work out.

Jekyll Island Dunes

Jekyll Island is home to another beach we really like.  It's hardly ever crowded and its got nice, soft white sand.

Black and White Sunday

A couple photos from today that I like (I'm probably the only one).  The trees are at the north end of the lagoon on Hunting Island and the lagoon is directly behind the dunes where I made the photo of the fence.  It was very overcast this afternoon, so that light lent itself to making the photos black and white.

West Virginia Power Sunset

A beautiful sunset over Appalachian Power Park.  The Power beat the Kannapolis Intimidators with a score of 5 to 1 in the second game of a double header this evening.  The Power got all their runs with two at bats.  Bases were loaded and the Kannapolis pitcher walked one in, then the next batter hit a grand slam.

Weekend Photos

The picture at the cemetery is from Friday evening.  We were headed to Appalachian Power Park to watch the Power play the Savannah Sand Gnats when a giant thunderstorm caused the game to be cancelled, so we went up to the cemetery and walked around in the rain for a while.

The other photo is the Gauley river just below the Summersville Dam.  We had been up there Saturday for another family reunion and we always like to go down by the river and mess around before we go home.

I made this picture from the third floor of parking garage next to city hall.

Sunday Pictures

My mom had the idea to make the top picture.  From left to right the ages are 90, 80, 70 and 50.  I'm not officially 50 yet, but I guess it's close enough, around a month-and-a-half.  It's my mom's neighbor, my step dad, my mom and me.  Her other neighbor was gonna be the 60, but she was busy this afternoon.  Maybe we'll get her in another one.

The bottom one was on our way home from church this evening.
