The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Almost Done!

A crescent moon and Venus look over Saint Albans and the almost completed Saint Albans / Nitro bridge Tuesday evening.

I talked to some bridge workers last Thursday and they said the bridge was going to be done around the end of the month and yesterday the lead story on WSAZ was about the bridge and it's early completion.

I converted this photo to black and white because of all the different color lighting in the area was kind of distracting.  This was shot hand held at 1/17th of a second at f/3.2 and iso 3200.

Weekend Shots

I made a post with this same title back on February, 10th.  Click here to check it out.  All the shots are kind of alike but different at the same time.  A different piece of yellow painted heavy equipment, a picture of the girl in almost the exact same spot but made with a different lens and a photo of our brand new bridge that's almost ready to drive on instead getting ready to be torn down.

Wednesday On The River

We spent all day Wednesday doing some water rescue training.  I made the first photo before we got started.  As you can see, the fog was super thick Wednesday morning. The second photo was in the afternoon when I was driving the boat on the Coal river headed toward the Kanawha.  In the bottom photo Saint Albans firefighter Sean Lowe (left) and training officer James Hill check the operation of the high line we made across the Coal.

Happy Birthday Kim!!

I made this photo last Friday evening when we went to The Blennerhasset for a short get-away to celebrate our birthdays.  Kim's birthday was today and mine was Friday.

Boomtown Days Nitro, WV

I'm kinda disappointed in my fireworks photos from this evening.  I usually try to get back a ways and get something interesting in the foreground, but I decided I wanted to get as close as I could and this is what I got.  Oh well, maybe next year I'll find a better spot.  It was still a great fireworks show.

Saint Albans Fire Dept. Water Rescue

In the top photo, Saint Albans Firefighter Mike Lively waits for another diver to enter the water for some dive training Wednesday morning.  In the bottom photo, Firefighter Eric Tucker takes the Demaree Inflatable Boat (DIB) out for a training run on the Kanawha river

Truck 311

The guys on the rescue truck were on a call Sunday evening and I was in the garage by myself  and noticed the light on the ladder and just had to take a picture.

Babcock State Park

We had planned to got to South Carolina this weekend, but a bunch of little things happened and we decided not to, so instead, we went and visited our cousins that were camping at Babcock.

I've got a bunch of photos of the mill, but it seems that every time I'm there I have to make another one.  It had just rained and the air was hazy and humid and the evening light wasn't the best, so that's why I converted to black and white.

Nerd alert!  This was a two minute exposure at f/8 and ISO 160 using a ten stop neutral density filter and a polarizing filter on a Canon 24-105mm lens at 24mm.
