Senator Byrd

We were flying to Washington DC for a short vacation back in 2005.  My mom and step-dad (left) had taken us to the airport.  As we were walking to the boarding area Senator Byrd was walking out.  He stopped and talked and shook hands, he even showed us the copy of the Constitution that he carried with him all the time.  The photo was taken by Anne Barth.

Some flyin' critter...

...on one of my tomato plants.

City Hall

My daughter and I went to Charleston today to see our stuff that's hanging for the National Arts Program art contest.  City Hall has a pretty neat staircase.

Stadlers

I woke up early this morning and walked up to our friend Roger's greenhouse.  I was looking for some ladybugs but didn't find any.

Dolphins

My daughter and I took a nature/wildlife photography tour of some of the waterways around Beaufort and Lady's Island, SC yesterday.  We went with Eric Horan, a commercial and environmental  photographer that lives in Beaufort.  I had seen some of his work in an art shop in Beaufort and had picked up a brochure at Higher Ground.  His photos that I saw really interested me and I thought it would be cool to take one of his tours/workshops.

My wife had asked me what I wanted for fathers day and I just happened to have his brochure in my pocket, so I handed it to her and said this would make a great present.

We met him at a boat ramp on Lady's Island at 5 pm Friday and set out on the Beaufort river in search of some wildlife.  I thought it was going to be more of a bird photo tour until we came across a bunch of dolphins.  I estimate that there were probably 18 to 20 dolphins in what appeared to be 3 families.  We followed them around for about an hour and a half.  Eric would take his boat ahead of the direction they were going and we would stop and let them go by and do it again.  There were several baby dolphins in the group and once one came about 6 feet from the boat.

Eric even commented that this was pretty rare and a real treat to get to photograph so many dolphins for such a long time.

It was great meeting Eric and hopefully we'll do some more tours/workshops with him.

Oyster Catchers and Eagles

A couple of Oyster Catchers and a Bald Eagle form our photo trip with Eric Horan.  I wish we could've gotten closer to the Eagle.  Still, it's the best wild eagle-in-flight photo I've ever taken (the only one).  This is only the second time I've seen an eagle in the wild.  They are awesome birds.

Bear Rocks

One I forgot to post from our camping trip to Dolly Sods a couple of weeks ago.

Going to the Ocean

These 32 armored personnel carriers are heading out to the ocean in the morning to be dropped off to become part of an artificial reef.  They're going to be added to others that have already been dumped.  They were donated by the Army National Guard.

Confederate States of America

Lots of Confederate graves in the cemetery at Saint Helena Episcopal Church in Beaufort.  I go walk around this cemetery almost every time we come down here.
