Lilly

Another one from the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.  This room is supposedly where the spirit of a little girl is trapped.  The staff leaves toys for her.  Check out the video.

Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

After we left WVU we stopped at Weston to get something to eat.  After we ate we drove around looking for the old Weston State Hospital, which is now a museum and tourist attraction.  We didn't plan on taking a tour but we lucked out and got in the last 45 minute 1st floor tour of the day.  Pretty interesting stuff.

I shot all these photos in color but got to messing with them and thought they looked better in black and white.  They fit the mood better.

WVU Pumpkin Drop

We went to Morgantown today with my daughters' school for WVU's annual pumpkin drop.  It was held at the 11 story Engineering Sciences building.  There were about 200 pumpkins dropped today.  The object is to construct a container that will keep your pumpkin from busting open after a 100 foot drop.  My daughter's teams container and pumpkin did not survive.  :-(

Monday Evening

I didn't have time to go somewhere more scenic to get a shot of the sunset and the rainbow, so my daughter and I just got up on the roof.

Thurmond, WV

After church this morning we went to Cannelton and picked up my daughter's cousin and we all went to Thurmond to watch the New River train come through on it's way back to Huntington.  I ddidn't get any shots of the train but I got a video.  I think I'll put it on youtube then embed it into my blog.

Contact Print

I took this shot in July at the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk.  I'm posting it to try out my new film strip borders that I found online.

Almost Full

Thursday evening.  Taken hand held with my Canon 30D and  70mm-300mm image stabilized lens with a 1.5x tele-converter.  With the 30D's APS-C (1.6x magnification factor) size sensor that's the equivalent of a 720mm lens.  It's like looking through a pair of 14.5 power binoculars.  The exposure was  f/9, 1/250th of a second and ISO 640.

Tuesday Evening

I wish I would've grabbed my tripod for this shot.  That would've made it a little sharper.

New River Train

A couple of cars on the New River Train.  The train runs from Huntington to Hinton, WV during October.  It smashed a penny for us.

A couple more from yesterday

The Waterfall is the middle falls on Hills Creek.  As waterfalls go, it's not the most photogenic one around.  Maybe if it were a different time of day and there was more water flowing it would do better.

Babcock State Park

We went to Babcock today for a surprise 50th birthday party for my wife's cousin.  We had a great time visiting with our family and celebrating Shelly's birthday.

No matter how many times we go there I have to get some shots of the grist mill.  I think the fall colors around there will be at their peak in just a few days.

Went to Sam's...

...and all I got was this bucket-o-bubble gum.  I'm tryin' for a good candy apple smile.
