Fife Street

Found this on the wall across from Ellen's Ice Cream shop.  I don't know why it's there, but it looks cool.

Saturday Afternoon

My wife and I dropped our daughter off at the ice arena at South Ridge so she could go skatin' with some boy.  While she was doing that we went to Little Creek Park and went for a short hike.

The rock formation is a tea table that's about 40 feet tall.  I wish I could get on top of it.

On the way home we stopped at our friends greenhouse to see his cat and pick up some day lilies to put in a bed out front.

Sunday Evening

Behind Lowe's

Spring is here in WV.  I had to go to Wal Mart this morning after work to get a new pair of khaki pants so I wouldn't get in trouble with the law.  The pants were the only thing I went after and all that I came out with.  I did go behind Lowe's to get a couple photos before I went on to the house.  This is a six shot HDR image processed with Photomatix Pro.

Amos

My daughter and I had been talking about going down to the Raymond City boat ramp and getting some shots of the John Amos Power Plant at night, so we did this evening.  I was hoping for more steam to be coming out of the stacks and cooling towers but it still looks pretty cool.  I used my Panasonic LX3.  The shot was a 40 second exposure.  If you click to see a larger picture you can see some small streaks of light, mainly in the upper left corner, those are stars.  I can't decide if I like the color or b&w better.

Kanawha State Forest

Went for a hike this morning at KSF looking for spring wildflowers.  I think I was about 2 weeks early for the majority of them.  The flower shot is a Nodding Trillium.  They seem to come out earlier than a lot of flowers.   I had my Canon DSLR and macro lens with me but didn't carry it due to the lack of flowers.  All I took hiking was my new LX3.  It doesn't do too bad for a point & shoot.  The waterfall shot is an HDR image made of 5 separate exposures.

New Train

New PATH train in the station at Journal Square, NJ.  We ended up there because I got on the wrong train on our way to the World Trade Center.

Intrepid

We went to the Intrepid Museum on Monday.  The Intrepid is an aircraft carrier that was commissioned in April of 1943 and fought in the Pacific in WWII.  It was pretty cool.  I didn't get a lot of shots on the ship but got a couple good ones from the ship.  I really like the photo of the "green" map room.  The walls were painted standard military "sea foam green" and the fluorescent lights just added that much more to the green color.

Saint Paul's Chapel

I took a Saint Albans Fire Department patch and laid it with the hundreds of other Fire, Police, Military and EMS patches from organizations all over the world as a remembrance to September 11th, 2001. The first patches were pinned on a priests garment.

FDNY Squad 18

My daughter got this video of Squad 18 responding to a call. She had barely enough time to get her camera out and in video mode before they came by. Good job Molly!

Reading the Paper

Got this shot while the girls were purse shopping in Chinatown.

A couple favorites...

...from today. The top picture is one that I've seen before from other photographers but this one is mine. It's from an area of Brooklyn called DUMBO (Down Under the Mahattan Bridge Overpass). We had walked across the Brooklyn bridge and got a pizza at Grimaldi's under the bridge. It was pretty good, but not as good as what we had yesterday at Two Boots in Greenwich Village.

The other photo is at the corner of Nassau St. and some other street (a little Sling Blade action). I've got a ton more pictures that I'll post later but I'm gonna get ready to hit the hay so I'll be rested up for the drive home tomorrow.

Greenwich Village

We rode the PATH train to Greenwich Village today so my daughter could see Waverly Place. She loves the TV show, Wizards of Waverly Place. The top one is a photo of my gals on Christopher St. The bottom one is on Waverly Place. We stood around there a while and listened to some construction workers sing along as "Benny and the Jets" blasted out a window.

FDNY

Here are some photos of some FDNY apparatus and a station we saw today. The fire station is Squad 18 on West 10th St. in Greenwich Village.

Ladder 4 was at the Intrepid Museum for someone stuck in an elevator.

Tower 12 and Ladder 5 were on a fire alarm call on Christopher St. Ladder 5 was so long and the street so narrow that I couldn't even get back far enough to get 2 shots to make a panorama.

Manhattan Skyline

A couple Manhattan skyline shots from the Newport Marina in Jersey City. This is about half mile north of where we stayed last year. A really nice night for a walk.
