We don't wear...

Captain John Philpott
Lieutenant Kenny Romine
Firefighter Jerry Bostic
Firefighter Nate Smith
Lieutenant Dan Taaffe
Captain Eric Mitchell

...our dress uniforms very often and when we do, nine times out of ten it's to a funeral. This time we were honoring retired Saint Albans firefighter Danny Burdette. I only got to work with Danny about 3 years before he retired. One of the things I remember most about Danny was what a great paramedic he was. It was a privilege to know Danny for the short time that I did and I know he'll be missed by his family and friends.

Last night at the wake, some members of the Saint Albans Fire Department, along with the Kanawha County Ambulance Authority posted an honor guard at the casket. After the services last night and the funeral today we tried to get all the guys that were able to attend together for some photos. Here are a few. The guys in the photo at the top are from left to right; Captain Eric Mitchell (me), Lieutenant Dan Taaffe, Firefighter Brandon Price, Lieutenant Kenny Romine, Firefighter Brian Sharp, Firefighter Nate Smith, Lieutenant Lance Carney and Captain John Philpott.

Sunday Road Trip

After church today we took a drive just to be doin' something. We had a great day. We had lunch at the Burger Carte (had to get a Carte Wheel) and got some ice cream at the Dairy King in Ansted.

The New River was ragin'. It wasn't as high as I've seen it before but it was close.

There was still a lot of snow piled up and just laying on the ground at Babcock State Park.

The "drys" below the Hawks Nest dam weren't dry today.

We had to stop at Cathedral Falls on the way up and had to go down Fayette Station Road on the way home.

The Mighty Kanawha...

...is showin' itself again. The river is usually about 15 feet below the rocks you can see in the pictures.

Just got my new...

...Panasonic LX3. I've had my eye on one of these baby's since it came out in July of '08. It arrived this afternoon so I haven't had much time to mess with it. I took a couple of photos of my Yashica Mat 124 G that I bought in 1980 just to try it out. I took the photos with a 1:1 aspect ratio in honor of the Yashica (it's a 2 1/4" x 2 1/4").  I think I'm really gonna enjoy this camera.

The Grass Stains

We went to see The Grass Stains tonight at the Alban Arts and Conference Center in Saint Albans. Tonight was the CD release concert for their new bluegrass CD titled "Still Stained". My friend Matt Poff is the lead singer and plays the mandolin and guitar. You can find the Grass Stains at, dubya dubya dubya dot thegrassstains dot com ;-)
